HISTORY

Leamington Dog Training Club was founded in 1952 by our current president Mrs Joan Winters and a group of her friends and was originally called The Leamington Alsatian Training Club because it started with 6 German Shepherd Dogs and 2 Boxers.

The first meeting was held at Spencer Street Church Hall and was basically a chat with 12 people and their dogs.  In 1955 the club moved to the British Legion Club in Leamington and changed its name to The Leamington Dog Training Club because of the wide variety of dogs that had begun to attend.  The fee for changing the name was 10/6.

In 1966 the club was left a legacy of £500 to buy its own clubhouse left by M Griffiths.  On that basis the club established a building society account started with £542.14s.9d.  A trophy was purchased in Mr Griffith's memory.

After a short stay at the Legion it then moved to the Leamington Scout hut due to the amount of people and dogs now attending.  The club was still only an obedience based club.  The other sections Ringcraft, Agility and Working Trials were established later on.

In 1971 the club presented trophies for various awards including Best Condition, Best Veteran and Best Junior Handler.

In 1976 Mrs Joan Winters the president of the club was approved as a life member.

In about 1978 the club moved to Lillington Community Centre and used this as its "headquarters".

Phil Pryor established the Ringcraft section in September 1982.

In 2004 the Flyball section became our fifth section and became instantly popular.

After a period of nearly 28 years the obedience and ringcraft sections moved from Lillington in 2004.  The Ringcraft  section moved to The Gap in Warwick and Obedience moved to Hatton Park Community Centre.

In December of 2008, Leamington Dog Training Club entered into a partnership with the Kennel Club to use their new building at Stoneleigh Park as our headquarters.  The club now uses the venue on a Wednesday evening for Good Citizen and Ringcraft and on a Tuesday evening for Agility.

In 2010 our working trials section moved from their Stoneleigh venue to a new venue at Hatton Country World.

Our Rally section was also founded in the summer of 2010.
